TC Bros. Customer Rides – a series dedicated to the fabrication ingenuity and creativity of our customers and featuring their rides they've shared with us.

Sent to us from David Peterson from Gary, Indiana. Interestingly and we guess not surprisingly?... David’s hometown was founded in 1906 by the United States Steel Corporation as the home for its new plant, Gary Works. The city was named after lawyer Elbert Henry Gary, who was the founding chairman of the United States Steel Corporation.

 In his own words:

“I grew up in a small neighborhood in Gary, Indiana. We had a big yard and a sandpit down the road from me, so I got started on ATV's and dirt bikes. The first time I ever rode a motorcycle on the street was when I was 14 on an old 70-somethin kz1000!

I first got the idea to build a bike around late 2011 but didn’t have the money. I knew I wanted to do an xs650 because it was a simpler bike for a beginner like myself and parts were highly available. Plus the load of info you can find about these bikes.

I finally pulled the trigger and jumped in and bought the 1979 bike in June 2012 and the story began. I had a vision in mind and just couldn’t get it done fast enough. The farther I got along, the style and ideas started flowing…

… it’s inspired by old Ford rat rods. I know black on black is common, but it’s the way I use the other metals and colors to make it flow. I have just the right amount of chrome and polished metal to make them accent each other. The gold chain is just different and gives it the small flash that can’t help but stand out.

This bike was torn completely down. I touched every piece. Shaved front forks with no front brakes. TC Bros. drag bars, Sportster tank, 2'' seat springs and pan with custom tuck-and-roll with white stitched seat. TC Bros. hardtail and neck gusset, fake oil tank, forward controls and linkage - I took your flat fender, cut it in half and shaved the edges to fit the chain and stamped louvers on the top.

It’s pretty slick, sticking to the rat rod styling. Not to mention I installed a flame thrower kit. Stock wheels with white wall tires. This bike is low, loud and a hot rod thru and thru.

Staying with the “less is more” theme and keeping it simple gets head turns and thumbs up on the streets.

I’m extremely proud of the build. It took me every bit of a year.

More time was spent looking at it and thinking than actually doing. It was done in my small home garage with limited tools and resources. I’m always spending time tweaking and cleaning. As a kid I was always in the garage changing the parts and look of my bicycles. I would want nothing more than to be featured on a website or a magazine with this build. To take the image from the site or magazine and have it framed. It’ll be just another chapter in this bike and my story. That’s my little dream.
